It seems as if The Bat is then starved for CPU, and responds quite badly to events (but it doesn't hang up totally, however). I'm not sure how The Bat processes WinSock events, but if it is via the (old-fashioned) system of processing windows messages in the main WindowProc, then this could be the problem. However, switching to a fully asynchronous WinSock event model is not an easy task... Not to mention incompatible with older versions of Windows. Do other people with the "pause" problem have CPU-consuming tasks running in the background?
