Well, emptying the trash means making it completely empty, IMHO. :) If you would have to do this individually with each item, it would be way too cumbersome if you had a lot of folders in there. Also, I would suggest that if you select individual folders in the trash, and press/choose Delete, then only those folders (and subfolders of course) should be permanently deleted. Hope that sounds logical. :) Of course, there's no way back after emptying the trash, or deleting subfolders from it, but that's what the trash bin was made for, right? People should always learn to backup their data anyway...
