I don't see why. If the Create View mode actually stored the currently used filter (it records all the other settings in use at the time), then you could use the advanced filtering option, sorting etc, then just "create view". The only extension as to what happens already is a) Sort out the bug which negates the logic of the message filters b) Store the currently applied filter in the newly created view mode.
