Don't you know that there *is* an archive right now? The current archive is accessable and searchable via the www. The Gmane archive is available over www and nntp, providing a much more powerful web interface than mail-archive does; plus providing a much better protection against spam. I can't understand how Gmane can be the reason for you to stop writing here ...
