It's hardly our obligation to give -them- a break. We're the PAYING end users. If a matter is going to be controversial (and any idiot would know this matter would be), then perhaps it's best to bring it up with the users rather than thrust it unquestioningly at them.
"Would you be willing to pay for version 3.0 right now?" -- I could tolerate. I'd answer no, but I'd be in a much better mood.
"You will pay for version 3.0 now, if you want the features and fixes promised for version 2.0" is how it has been delivered, however, and that is simply impossible to take gracefully.
