(<No> will change positions to default)"? Even a dialog question is too much of a hassle. It would be great to be able to switch split view modes on-the-fly. Should anyone wish to restore the pane positions to default values, that improbable option should be made available from a sub-menu somewhere or in the general Preferences dialog. But as it is right now, the switching of Split Modes is simply impossible because they always return to the same undesirable default positions. You just have to stick with the one split mode you prefer. In my case, it's a buggy Split Mode: whole-width message-list, where toggling the preview window off leaves you staring at blank space across most of your screen, instead of at a more extensive message list. (The only reason why you would want to toggle the preview window off in the first place!) This is the reason why we need workable Split-Modes, i.e. the ability to switch between various Split Modes effortlessly, on-the-fly. I and others requested this possibility on the mailing lists back in 2000 or 2001 when there wasn't even a Bug-Tracker yet. If Ritlabs incorporated this small fix, that alone would make it worth upgrading to Version3 for me!
