In my search for an IMAP solution, I came upon a page
written by Entourage's main developer. He said that for
Windows, ThunderBird is the best solution in his view.
However, Entourage was ... what do we expect to read...
better. :) However, it's available only for Macs.

With the current theme I use with ThunderBird, unretrieved
message bodies are indicated by a colour change in the
message envelope icon.

Attachments are not retrieved unless I explicitly request
this by saving or opening the attachment.
