I did it with 3.16. The registration codes changed at version 4. So, if you don't have a 3 version series registration code, you won't be able to get 3.16 to go. Your only choice at the 4 level right now on Linux is the alpha 8.
I started with 4.0.0a8 and upgraded to version 4 in the Windows version. I tried my new reg number in and it refused but I then tried my first reg code and it works... I'm using it now.
