It's not only that some things may work or not. I think they were
perhaps too ambitious with the initial design ('they want to
customise? they are going to be able to customise everything!) and it
ended up being awkward and far from intuitive and easy to use.
I see three main things people would want to do for customisation:
1.- Hide (disable) some menu or toolbar options.
2.- Change (move) some options from one menu to a different one.
3.- Change some shortcut assignments.
To do all of these all that would be need would be a dialog with two
windows or panes.
- The left pane would list all Menus and Toolbars with their default
contents.
- On the right pane, the customised menus and toolbars (initially the
same as default).
Then:
1.- To hide something: select on right pane and tick hide box.
2.- To move one option to another menu: Select on left pane and
drag&drop to desired position on right pane. Arrows (as now) would be
also OK.
3.- Right pane should also show shortcuts and they could be changed as
it was done some versions ago via a little window pane below the right
pane.
Is (would there be) something else really needed?
