When I send HTML formatted messages containing embedded images to friends, especially (but not limited to) friends using Thunderbird, they see all of the HTML text and a collection of attachments. They don't even see markers where a missing graphic belongs, as is normally done when an image cannot be loaded.
Interestingly, when I sent the same message to my GMail account and then forwarded it from there, Thunderbird displays the message correctly. So Google fixed the problem. By using Thunderbird's "View Message Source" command (I wish I could find /that/ in The BAT!), I compared the original message from The Bat! and the one from GMail... It appears that the primary difference is that The Bat! is not including the "Content-Disposition: inline" header field with the images (RFC-1806). Since the header is optional, I'm sure that RIT will (rightly) blame Thunderbird, but it seems like it might not be an impossible thing to correct... Also, RFC-1806 states that any unrecognized content disposition should be treated as "attachment". To me, that means that any program the displays mail and uses RFC-1806 will consider a /missing/ content disposition as "attachment" -- despite The BAT!'s apparent hopes otherwise. FWIW, RoadRunner web mail display the original from TB! correctly, but when it forwarded the message it added "Content-Disposition: attachment" to each of the images. -- Steve Vallière | tb 3.99.8 | mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] -- "If you didn't write it down, then it didn't happen." -Larry Zana ________________________________________________________ Current beta is 3.99.07 | 'Using TBBETA' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
