I would support that.

I am subscribed to several newsletters/mailing lists which use tags 
like "[identifier]" to enable stupid mail clients (or subscribers?) 
to filter into folders.

Currently I use a filter consisting of
-  export to RFC 822 message,
-  run through KorrNews [1] to remove the tag,
-  re-import to TB!.
Works flawlessly without any delay (subjective).
