For example: Xonbi sits beside your message. You do not have to switch from a folder tree to another tree and back. Xonbi also automatically follows the current message: it automatically displays the history for the sender of the current message. It also shows what they call 'network', iow: a list of to and cc addresses from recent emails from the person, and much more. Please understand me: It is not that I am not happy with TB, but adding something like this to the product seems a logical thing to me.
