There are a lot of ways to wipe/shred the free space of a hard-disk. The most security way and the normal way it's to create a big file or files with random content until the free space on the unit it's zero. This could be a problem for some programs, because if they try to create or to enlarge a file they will got an error. In some cases, and TB! could be one application of this type, the database could be corrupted because the file it's not correctly closed. If you want to do this operation I suggest you to use the Runonce key of the registry [1] to boot Windows and before running another application or driver it executes the application you want, in this case the shredder.
