Account / Properties / Transport / Receive Mail / Protocol. You have a
drop-down menu giving you the choice of POP3 and IMAP4. If you never
touched it, you will be set to POP3 (the default).

Right. I confirm this behaviour under the POP3 protocol, as per my
previous mail.
