You could set up a "List Trash" folder that has "Keep messages" set to
a week while the main "Trash" folder keeps messages for a year. You
could set up a manual filter which moves messages to the "List Trash"
folder on the press of a hotkey.
This way, the purging of expired messages is fully automatic. You just
have to use a hotkey rather than any of the Delete operations to put
list traffic in the trash.
