It's some type of misinterpretation of text...
"Require secure (MD5) authentication" is "REQUIRE secure (MD5)
authentication" , not "Require SECURE"
i.e

"If server haven't support for MD5, say to plain-authentication NO-NO,
but always use more secure method from supported" The Bat saw MD5 in
answer - and _ise_ it

You translation "If not checked, use plain-text" is simply wrong :-)
