If TB needs to show "foreign" characters (non 7 bit) and the default font being used by the message list doesn't have the required character available, then TB will select the nearest matching font to display that message summary in the message list. Now, it may be that the nearest matching font "looks" bold to you in comparison to the regular message list font.
