Bottom line question, though, is, why would a process be running for The Bat after having closed the application?
I too would like to know. I've had to abandon TB! a few months ago with the death of WinXP and am now struggling to try to make ThunderBird resemble the functionality that TB! gave me for years, but I ran into that extreme CPU usage long after apparently closing the program, almost every time I had to shut it down. I finally learned to monitor disk usage as well as that of the CPU, and force an 'End process" once the disk had been idle for at least 30 seconds, but it was a nuisance every time.
