Hello Jast,
J> If only I could... I agree the registry concept is thoroughly fucked
J> up.
Well, it does have advantages over the ini-concept (no 64k-limit,
additional data-types,...)
J> Only global settings should be stored in a global database, why
J> do all the Windows programmers not seem to follow this simple concept?
because it's a microsoft 'rule'...
don't even bother applying for a 'win95/98' compatible logo if you use
ini-files... (or the concept of ini-files: saving info in a file
instead of the registry)
J> It really only makes reinstalling Windows a heck of a hassle. Excuse
J> my venting.
True, but according to Microsoft: windows is a stable platform...
(rotfl)
Personaly: the registry concept is a good thing for certain programs
(office & stuff like that) & it surely does have it advantages
(everything is stored in a single place, making things much easier for
programmers etc)
however, it also has its disadvantages & reinstalling every program
you've got after (yet another) total-windows-f$$$-up that destroyed
the registry...
I do rather see smaller progs (like the bat!) using ini-files, where
larger progs (which include system-files, like office) should use the
registry...
Just my 2 cents...
