They bought up Dr Solomons which was quite good. They probably had to
as the year before they had been caught using loads of Symantecs
code...
Supposedly some guy working on a thesis in symantec did the work and
McAfee considered that if you do a thesis there is no copyright on it.
After which obviously they dug more and found copied code in other
programs. No idea what it cost them in the end as it went suspiciously
quiet..
Anyway, all I like to say is that MCafee and Symantec have very good
PR. I wish their programs were as good. However ANY time some one
gets caught by a virus, you will find they run nothing or one of
these.
Or like in Pretty Park's case, Norton isolates the thing after which
your windows doesnt work at all...
If you are exposed or likely to be exposed to new virus strains, both
are distinctly the last ones to use.
The best place to get objective advice are the various cracking groups
on usenet. Its considered a testbed for virus releases by some so if
one doesnt run a good AV tool, infection or a trojan is more then
likely.
Its also a good place to pick up samples for testing...
Anyway, comments on both of above mentioned products could be
described in terms our moderater would say are banned on this newslist (g).

Or at least preventing that things get send out without the users
permission
