    Exactly.  All of that text is generated by the core program before it is
passed into the internal editor's buffer.  Replace "buffer" with temp file and
internal with external and the functionality is the same.  The only difference
is quick templates.  However, those can mostly be done in an external
application as well.

    Yes.  I meant the named pipes as a way for the editor to signal to the MUA
when the editing is done without exiting the editor.
