I somehow missed the couple of previous messages to this thread, but
I've been using "The Journal" from DavidRM Software
(http://www.davidrm.com) for a couple of months, and it's been great.

It's billed as a "personal diary" program, but I put all sorts of
notes and different things in it; it's got a number of flexible setups
(of which multiple can be ready to go at any time), and two setups
sort and display the top level by date anyway. Oh and even the
unregistered version (only $35 to register, though) has a thesaurus.

-tom!
