Ok, the best way to get what you want, is to edit the account
properties. Under Mail Management, check the box for "leave mail on
server", then also check the box "Delete message from server when it
is removed from trash".
Now all messages will stay on the server (as well as being downloaded
to your machine) when you check your mailbox (you do not have to use
mail dispatcher for this), and if you want to remove the message from
the server, then delete the message on your machine. Meaning delete
the message, then empty the trash.
To see previously downloaded mail, you'll have to use the mail
dispatcher and select "All Messages" or hit SHFT-CTRL-F2 to do the
same thing.
If you want to remove a message from the server, but want to keep a
copy of the message on your machine, then copy the message to a "hold"
folder or something like that, then delete the original message, empty
the trash, then check the IMAP mailbox again. It'll remove that
message from the server.
This should do what you need until v2.0 comes out with better IMAP
support.
