This  was  one  of  the 3 reasons for which I moved the hosting of the
silverstones.com  domain  from  Force9  to Cheapnet about 2 years ago.
Although  I  liked  the  Force9  attitude  the  service had mysterious
outages  and  black  holes  for  which  there  was  never  a technical
explanation.  They  were too big to allow the real technicians to talk
to  the  customers.  The third (and main) reason, FWIW, is that I paid
extra  to get an SMTP feed which they finally admitted (after 3 months
of sporadic and *lost* mail) they were unable to operate reliably.

So - the light I can shed is that it is a known F9 quirk.

Of  course,  it's  nothing whatsoever to do with the fact that F9 name
all of their servers after british booze <g>.

Aside  from those three flaws, I still think F9 are essentially a good
ISP.
