Is this to your local mail server or is this to some server out on the
Internet somewhere?  Is this information somehow important to keep
private?  I mean, out of all of the email do you get, is there some
subset that would be really bad if it fell into the "wrong hands"?

If not, I would imagine that the security of your email is between you
and your correspondents.  If it is a "company" issue somehow, then
you're limited to the people that have the SSL stuff built in unless
anybody knows of an SSL proxy (I'd love to hear if anyone knows,
actually, for ipchains under Linux).  This is a similar mechanism (as
I understand it) to the way the snews "protocol" works: it opens a
secure channel with SSL and sends info from other ports through it.
