Hi Chuck,
On 20 May 2000 at 21:30:38 GMT -0500 (which was 03:30 where I
live) [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote and made these points on the subject
of "Graphics?":

I am one who likes it that way. Let's face it, it's auto-retrieval and
the associated executions that allowed such exploits as the Love Bug.
Okay, a graphic isn't going to do damage, but that's not the point.
Mail should be self contained - attachments are part of that. When a
graphic is correctly attached to HTML email, it is shown in-line.
Frank: If you want to see full on-line (i.e. non-attached) graphics,
it's very easy to open the HTML attachment in your favourite browser
with a swift double click on the icon.
There is a long standing school of thought in this group which says
it's pure bloat to add full browser download protocols to an e-mail
client when the technology is far better implemented in a program
dedicated to that task. The enhancements that Chuck hopes for in v2
may well end up as a third party plug-in. It is hard to envisage RIT
labs putting in a full browser implementation and any lesser addition
could easily be damned as an incomplete job because it falls short of
this/that/the other browser capability. A veritable hot potato.
Personally, I resign from news-lists which are HTML only and send
angry notes to folk that spam discussion lists with HTML postings
(because I consider all HTML e-mail to be spam). But that's because
I'm a miserable old fogey with nothing better to do ;-).
