Dear Bat folk and especially also Januk re encouraging perseverance

Well I am not sure if it is the same file as one I dumped as useless
recently:
but I am working on a project, and one particular file (mailing list digest)
is proving a real headache. It seems to crash or seize or just confuse
Bat in two crucial ways. Firstly, again and again when downloading
this 200k digest message (or the submessage itself) off my ISP server
it would get to point of 'Importing messages' on the download dialog,
that is, the message was downloaded, and was now 'importing' (from a
Temp file I guess ??).
Anyway, it seized Bat again and again at this point, with nothing
spectacular happening at all, merely nothing, a seizure, but not one
that would take Bat down. I would just wait a few minutes and as
clearly nothing is happening I would have to press
cancel and that would be that. I wouldn't get to see the message in
any folder, although in a sense I had already downloaded it.

I had downloaded the message, but I do not get to see it as it simply
will not pass thru the 'import' phase.

So then I decide I have to use the Web interface to delete the mail
from server; and then order it again from the listserver, and try
again with it -- to no avail.

So I finally use Agent and get the message no problem.

For the next problem, I am still trying to get the message into a
folder of Bat where I am archiving, so I cut and paste the text of the
message from Agent to the clipboard, and using Bat, make a new
message. I paste it into the message body, wait a second, and begin
typing a subject line, or the TO: field, etc. Say I start to write (or
generally move focus to any of the header fields)

test
as the subject line.
if I am lucky I get to write
tes

and Bat soon seizes (give it about 2 or 3 seconds), and I can usually
close it down with Ctl_Alt_Del (and thus End Task from the ensuing
dialog);

but if I keep testing re the same problem it will eventually bring
down Windows also, over time I think. So I restart Bat and or Windows
also, and yet get the same seizure every time. The Edit window just
crashes and essentially nothing works on it, and it takes all of Bat
down with it.

As the digest holds 100 messages I narrowed it eventually down to
message 24624 which is the 24th message in the digest. It looks
harmless enough, but if I even try to actually paste this message (cut
out from the digest) into a new message then again - seizure. So it is
this particular message within or without a particular digest that is
causing the problem!?I don't get it. Is there some weird character in
there? I can't see it.

You can get the problem message itself via the one link on
http://www.ozemail.com.au/~atman/Bat/index.htm

To test, I suggest you just get the ProblemText.txt message (that I
extracted from the digest via trial and error), and cut and paste this
whole message (select all) from the ProblemText.txt into a new message
and send it to yourself, if you can!! because I cannot get past the
composing stage in Bat!.

If you look at the problem message, go straight to the 4 lines
beginning with the line

Meher Baba tends to the seekers with solutions of the day,

as it is the line that mentions Cole Porter that does it. It is the
word Begin in the phrase 'Begin the Beguine' that hold the problem on
my computer. Am I going mad? I have tested this over and over
again, always with the same result - a seizure. Please someone
duplicate it for me. :-) before I have a seizure.

[Remember, it takes about 3 seconds or so for the problem to kick in.
Just click around the To and Subject fields while you wait. Just
click a bit, type in, or just wait.]

I can't even paste the four lines into this message now because it will
seize Bat. Does this happen to anyone else?

As I cannot 'Compose' such a message in Bat I just sent the message
itself to Bat via Agent (wherein it is not trouble at all to Compose
using it), but again, even the little message itself will not
successfully "Import" when I download that message using Bat.

I am using Bat (now 1.42f) routinely to get, archive, import, export an
generally work with LISTSERV digests, and generally have no problem,
so I am baffled re this problem with this one particular Digest
message.
