That's a lot, that's about 10,000 a year or 30 a day. Have you had a
period that TB was misbehaving extremely?

Stuff that TB needs to save as a file before they're processed any
further. And there's no reason whatsoever that you should save them.
TB tends to get faster with an empty cache folder.
