I think Stefan's description is a little confusing, so let me try to
make it clear. The "Check the selected messages against this rule"
option would do two things: 1) check if the condition (filter
string) is matched, and 2) move to the destination folder. (That's
the exception Stefan mentioned in his second paragraph.)

If the option is not checked, then TB would ignore the rule (filter
string), but also ignore the destination folder, if it's the same as
the source folder. (IOW, if the destination folder is different from
the source folder, then TB will move the messages regardless the
option is checked or not.)

For you purpose, uncheck the "Check the selected messages against
this rule" option should do the trick.
