This may be moot as you may be gone from the list already, but trust
me, the longer you spend on the TBUDL the more you come to understand
what different peoples tactics are.

If you feel you are justified in saying what you say, then you only
have to justify it to the moderators, and then only if they call you
on it. Frankly I don't think that you crossed any line, but my
opinion in the matter doesn't have any sway with the moderators.

There are a lot of people who *read* this list and rarely post
anything. These are mostly the old-timers, and while I haven't been
around for as long as Steve Lamb or Allie "Curtis" Martin, I've been
around long enough that now I'm content just to sit on the outside,
looking in.

Steve's posts amuse me these days. He tries so hard to be offensive,
I find it hard not to laugh. I can only wonder at what the personal
issues are that he's battling so terribly with, as that's the only
thing I can figure would make him as bitter as he is. Then there's
the rabble of other frequent posters who simply don't have any idea
what they're talking about, and the others who think that they know
how the TB development should happen, etc., etc. Steve is actually
someone worth paying attention to, though, as he knows "what's going
on" when it comes to standards, but the only way to rationally "deal
with him" is to read his post, stripping the attacks, the flames, and
the slights from the post as you read it, and simply not respond to
them. People only act that way to get a rise out of people, so if you
don't respond *at all* to the offensive parts of a post (not even so
much as "snip of flamage", just delete it), then he won't get nearly
the thrill out of it.

Hell, perhaps you just need a filter for him to mark his messages as
read when they come in so you don't have to see them at all (but can
preserve the references as you would lose them if you deleted the
message)...

JF> I moderate several mail lists myself, I know it's a big PITA to be a
JF> moderator, but I would have permanently banned a person like Lamb a
JF> long time ago -- they just aren't worth having around. They lose you
JF> many more subscribers than they ever bring you.

I agree, although with the asterisk that he is one who actually
verifies EVERYTHING that is said on the list to be true. His methods
may be suspect, but he does call a lark a lark (even if it is by
calling it a *%*$# lark), and I can only imagine that this is why he
doesn't get banned. He's been nearly-banned in the past, and the
moderators have jumped on him before, but he slowly gets back into his
own routine. :)
