"tragic" seems a wee bit overstated. I use many, many folder templates
to do things that cannot be done with account and address book
templates, or at least not as simply. I prefer them to the other
template options, in general.

The mailto thing has never bothered me, but then I don't click on mailto
links much. On the rare occasions that I do, if the wrong template pops
up, I simply cancel and pick a folder whose template I want the message
to use. This allows me to quickly use any of my accounts and identities
attached to folders for a message. Very flexible and easy to use in my
book.

You're right, of course. For people annoyed by this behaviour, an
option to set a default template for mailto's is needed, perhaps for
each account.
