of "Newbie questions":

The ticker, when in use, has the option "Age limits". This allows you
to configure it to only show *new* unread mesages.
IMHO the other answers you have received are spot-on and I won't
bother restating them. The only thing I will do is endorse the comment
that TB does not use browser "GET" technology to retrieve non-included
graphics because it is not right that it should. TB is an off-line
reader. "GET" is an on-line function. QED. Any "get with the trend"
type statement ridiculing the way TB does this are misleading and
inaccurate. The *majority* of TB users would be unhappy if this
methodology were to change for reasons of security, bandwidth and call
costs when retrieving extra images.
It is very easy to simply double-click the icon for the HTML to launch
the system default browser for full HTML view - even easier than
Thomas indicates ... there is no need to change any settings.
Personally, I delete HTML attachments and keep the plain text.

You are certainly on the right track here. Once you marry Address Book
templates with Quick Templates and the %QINCLUDE macro you suddenly
enter a whole new realm of flexibility.
