Hi Gerd,
On 05 October 2000 at 17:53:58 GMT +0200 (which was 16:53 where I
live) Gerd Ewald wrote and made these points on the subject
of "privacy & encryption":

For me, my written word represents a lot to many people I write to. It
is important to me that they are able to verify that a message is
really from me and not just purporting to be. So I now PGP sign all
messages I send as a matter of course and habit. That signature can be
verified as the one that belongs to my public key. Moreover it
guarantees (by check-summing) that the contents of the message signed
with my key have not been amended or tampered with since they were
signed.
