Hi Rev.,

On 17 October 2000 at 12:07:28 GMT -0500 (which was 18:07 where I
live) Rev. Bob 'Bob' Crispen wrote and made these points on the subject
of "Handling Trash":

While this is the "easy" option, I eventually chose to switch this off
in favour of a 7 day message retention on the Trash folder with purge
and compress on exit. The advantage of this is that if anything gets
in there I didn't really mean to throw out I can fish it back out (and
shake off the baked beans, soggy envelopes, apple cores and stale
bread that got stuck to it) with a week's grace. (sorry to those of
you who may have just eaten - that was a bit graphic).

The other advantage is that I can force a menu driven purge without
having to exit. Let's face it - Windoze crashes and burns more often
than I get to exit gracefully and have folders purged and trash
emptied - well, it did before I switched to Win2k.

RBBC> Or is there another step required to *really* delete the messages?
RBBC> That certainly would explain why I have those ever-growing empty files
RBBC> in Inbox, Trash, etc. when I download to my non-default account.

Yes: folder compression.
