Have you considered making one installation a server and the other a
client?  I'm not sure that this does exactly what you want, but it
might be better than what you're trying.

Unfortunately I haven't tried this myself, so I can not comment on how
to set up this system.  If you get it to work, please let us know how
you did it and how well it works.

The only option I can think of is not to run TB on both machines at
the same time.  This option probably won't be practical for your
purpose.
