Hello Bat People,
I am wondering why it is taking the Bat-creators so long to adopt the
best of Agent 1.8's threading capacities (assuming that that is where
they are going to end no matter what way they choose to go!).
While we are waiting I would be very pleased if someone could explain
TB's threading behaviour to me!
I am convinced that TB is the e-mail client with the strongest
threading capacities next to Agent - and I realize that it even
exceeds Agent at some points (the capacity to refine the basic
thread-views with different column-settings is an example).
What I don't understand is why TB - with all its immense refinement -
has such a strange option as pure subject threading and why it -
apparently - makes basic errors in threading. (In case you forgot or
didn't know: Agent *always* threads by reference. It is possible to
*ad* threading by subject to this choice as it is possible to force
changed subjects into a new thread).
A recent example of (what appears to be) a basic error in TB's
threading is Ming-Li's answer (created Fri, 15 Dec 2000 04:56:44 -0800
his local time) to David Butenbroich's post (created Fri, 15 Dec 2000
09:43:15 +0100 his local time) in the thread "The Bat! - bug report".
It appears as an answer to *Marek Mikus'* answer (created Fri, 15 Dec
2000 14:26:26 +0100 his local time) to David Butenbroich's post. But
why?
As you might have guessed I'm looking for a new e-mail client after
finally realizing that Agent just couldn't do (in *this* respect!). I
think I have examined close to twenty different programs by now (!),
and if it is of any interest, I can inform you that Becky! is the only
candidate that so much as come close to TB (you probably already
knew!). But Becky! separates both David Butenbroich's thread-starting
post and Ming-Li's answer to it from the rest of the thread. If this
is standard behaviour in Becky!, I find its thread-repair tool to be
of little comfort!
Best regards,
Jannik Lindquist
