I would use an incoming filter and delete the message (and mark it as
read, otherwise you have a "new" message in the Trash folder). This

They work manually on other folders than the inbox, if you focus on
that folder and execute the filter.

It kicks in when the message changes its status from "new" to "read".

Some people don't use Incoming filters, so that all new messages
arrive in the Inbox. When they read them, the message will be sorted
into the appropriate folders. That's the idea.

If the FROM address is the poster's email address, not the list
address, kill filters should work. However, since you're on dial-up, I
would suggest incoming filters anyway.
