You cannot do this *and* use auto-format simultaneously. You can:
1) Turn off auto-format in the editor options.
2) Become accustomed to using (the IMHO more legible) blank line to
separate paragraphs.
3) Become accustomed to using Ctrl-Shift-F to toggle auto-format as
required (and as I did to produce this numbered list).
