On principle I don't like trumpeting other commercial software (and
it's not cheap!) on the list. I did, however, wrote at length once
on TBOT, which seems the more appropriate forum for the topic. The

check out other messages on that thread and some other similar
threads (IIRC, some discussion were on this list as well), as
several other freeware or DIY solutions have been suggested.
In general, you don't need commercial backup software unless you
take backup very seriously, and need to backup directly to tape,
CDR/RW or other devices that aren't directly supported by the OS.
And even then, there are other ways, though might be a little more
cumbersome, to do it without expensive commercial software.
