That is because of the sort order of the message list in the folder
view you have opened. TB does not have a "message view" per-se. It has
a folder view with a message list. To change the sort order (and
therefore the designation of which message would be "next") turn on
the "Message list" in the "View" menu. Once you have that you can
better see what is happening.
