Chris, I agree in point there is confusion as to what is the "default
folder". What you can do is use the Inbox as your default folder. Click on
the Inbox in the Folder List, right click and look at the Properties. Make
sure the "Use the default column settings" box is checked. Then on the
right side of the screen in the Message List, right click on any one of
the column headings and adjust the column settings as per your personal
preferences. The Inbox will now become the default Folder.

>From now on any new Folder you create, or any existing Folder, that has
that option checked in it's properties, will have it's column settings
identical to how you set up the Inbox. Be aware however, that all Folders
with that option checked... will act as the "default Folder" *if* you make
any changes to the column settings in any of those Folders with that
option checked. Think of a default Folder as *any* Folder that has that
option checked.
