Hi Peter,
On 11 April 2001 at 22:04:46 +0200 (which was 21:04 where I live)
Peter G. Hansen wrote to TBUDL and made these points:

Never, I hope.
Sorry - end of a long day ... the longer answer is that it is more
appropriate to find a fixed pitch font that you do like. One that gets
mentioned every time this debate reemerges is Andale Mono - which I
use myself.
The facts are that:
1. You can't do this kind of hanging paragraph format or anything
even approximating it using a variable font.
2. Another thing that can't be done is this to underline bits.
^^^^
3. Number Reason Rating
------ ------ ------
1 You can't do columns without 5
2 You can't do justification 2
3 Its the only way to achieve 10
plain text WYSIWYG between
dissimilar email client
software.
Columnar presentation is another *good* reason for the TB editor to
provide the free-space floating cursor.
Doubtless V2 will see it introduced. Doubtless the vast majority of
us will ignore it and stick with what works *really* well.
