Maybe not by default, but *all* MUAs offer a fixed pitch view mode.
Ultimately I would probably like to see TB work the way Pegasus does
it in this respect - a simple hot key toggle between the two possible
view fonts. I'd probably still stick with Andale mono anyway - I'm
used to it :-).

Not possible I'm afraid. This is hard coded in the interface. There
has bee some talk of changing system wide defaults (menus etc) from
Windows' display properties but I think that ended up having little or
no effect.
Hang on ... by using colour groups you can change the font / colour of
the message lists, so that one's available right now.
