This may seem sill but I need to be sure because your problems are pretty
bizarre.

Where did you download that thebat.exe from? Was it a .rar file that you
downloaded or a file called the_bat.exe. The .rar archive doesn't contain
an installation program but a file thebat.exe which you need to manually
copy to the TB! installation directory, overwriting the old one in the
process. OTOH, the_bat.exe  is a full installation file which you have to
run and go through the usual window prompts.
