They don't give much of an explanation. The core element of all those
programmes mentioned (Oracle's *Off-the-Shelf*, and *Constant contact*
by Roving Software, and *GotMarketing*) seems to be a kind of
re-direct through a defined server, i.e. Oracle's by means of loading
a picture. Actually you don't need a picture since the src tag can
have anything as an argument, AIUI.
The method just described is the one specifically connected with
Oracle's SW, there may be other means incorporated by other firms.
Don't forget, trojans and other malware are known to be installed on
computers through HTML.
Just at the end of last week I was making a short research on the
newest scheme pornographic sites use to get money. Most of them seem
to use now a special dial-up programme, which is installed on one's
computer and re-directing your dial-in through a 0900 (0190 in
Germany) number. Some of them don't mention anything of the sort and
install it without any interference of the user. Not unlike MS'
on-line update.
Luckily my own computer and SW do not allow such thing - and I don't
need a firewall (SW or HW for it). ;-)
BTW, Nick, could you be so kind and tell is in some days/weeks how
Becky compares overall with TB!? I trust you not just to praise one
and belittle the other but round up some crucial points, like PGP
support, templates, automation, multi-account handling etc.
