For lists absolutely! I just created a new certificate because the old
one expired, and I added [EMAIL PROTECTED] as an e-mail address in the
certificate. I was playing around with it on list to see if it works.

However, when I am doing on-line financial things with my bank and
stocks, every little bit of protection is IMHO totally worth it.

Again, for lists, I agree. For important things that require security
and authentication it's worth it. Now... HTML mail I am with you in
total agreement. Unless it's a newsletter or something that needs more
than plaintext formatting, there is no need to send a "Hi Bill"
message with backgrounds and colored fonts. Too much waste. But I
digress, because I don't want to start another HTML vs. plaintext
argument.

When I first wrote the rules for the TB lists, it was way before
S/MIME was even a glimmer in TB's eye. However, since then we had made
the decision that certs would be allowed. But, we also stated the
caveat that they were unnecessary for normal list traffic.
