Yes, but since he mentioned Opera, I assume he does use a web browser.

I am not using atGuard any more, but TinyPF associates rules with
applications. When there is a change in the application (MD5 check),
the firewall alerts me to it. So it wouldn't be possible to change my
browser and do something malicious to my system (someone correct me if
I'm wrong).

This is the rule: the only really safe way is to unplug your system
from the internet. ;-)
