I would like to describe what happened to me as it may
give you a couple of other things to think about.

I had a similar situation & have found that w2k pro likes
to be re-installed *clean*. It is so finicky about
permissions & assignments that it gets weird if it doesn't
have the solid foundation of a fresh install.

I did a parallel install of w2k & transferred all necessary
files off to another medium. For The Bat!, this involved
  the *entire* "MAIL" folder.

  I re-formatted my HD & re-installed w2k & the TB! program.
But before I created any new accounts as part of the TB!
installation process, I exited the program. Then I copied
the backup MAIL folder in it's entirety to the HD,
replacing the MAIL folder TB! installed & 'imported' the
accounts from the old MAIL folder. Worked like a charm.

  HTH
