Using The Bat! v1.53d on Windows NT 4.0 Build 1381 Service Pack 5

Hi All,

I'm trialling TB with a view to replacing MS Outlook. So far, so good.
However, I need to archive messages so that they can be temporarily
"mounted" at a later date. For info, in Outlook, I do this using the
auto-archive feature to move all messages older than a certain age
into an archive personal folders file (.pst) that I can temporarily
open whenever I need to search for a particular message.

So far, I've looked at these TB features:

Backup/restore -- I can't find a way to _temporarily_ access the
messages in the backup set. I haven't done a backup/restore to test
this, but it looks as though TB would just add all those messages to
the existing folders.

Export/Import -- I can't find a way automatically to export only those
messages older than a certain date (although I can find switches to
export newer than the set date). It looks as though exporting would
need to be done by hand. That said, I can't find any way to
temporarily mount an exported UNIX mailbox or lots of .msg files
(about the best I can do so far is to import the messages into a
temporary folder, then delete the folder after I've finished viewing
the messages.) Starting TB with the /EXPORT switch on the command line
looked promising because it would allow batch export to specified
folders (approximating the auto-archive feature of Outlook). However,
for that to work, I'd need to be able to specify "older than xxxx"
rather than the "newer than xxxx" that feature provides.

TIA for any ideas?
