In principle there is, it is called PGP/MIME. Sadly this is not
supported by The Bat!, yet (but it is promised).

There are some other difficulties with S/MIME. In contrast to PGP it
relies solely on a centralised certificate authority. You'll need such
a certificate to use it.

If you haven't a clue about it, you should definitely read the PGP
manual (particularly Phil ZImmermann's introduction to cryptography).
